Some may recall, I spent a considerable amount of 2009 on an Ayurvedic diet – prescribed by Pratima. I removed, dairy, most meats (kept chicken), fermented foods, tomatoes, citrus and processed sugar- processed anything from my diet.  I was left with brown rice, beans, salads, wheat pastas, non-yeast bread, and a slew of herbal spices.  This wasn’t a diet, it was a cleanse to try to balance my then dosha- vata/ kapha. I found that the foods I loved so much, particularly, Italian and asian- do not jive well with my dosha, causing imbalances in my ph and it would result in skin irregularities (TMI?.)  After several months of my ayurvedic practice, my skin was “glowing” (per the husband) and I felt great.  I was a little bored having to streamline the savory flavors so abundant in lower Manhattan, but it wasn’t a total loss or adjustment because I still had the option of preparing warm meals or cold with new seasoning and herbs that didn’t conflict with my dosha.  And since I was “glowing” a girl sucked it up and starting lovin’ curry! Smile.

The Organic Avenue LoveEasy cleanse seems to have been just as effective.  But I will say to go from having nice warm yummy pastas, to a variety of good green things like Sesame Seaweed Salad is a bit of a hump.  I kept telling myself, since it was just for 5 days- it wasn’t insurmountable. While I think it would be cool to be a 100% raw foodie, my goal is simply about vanity- that is, to maintain my skin from the inside.

I am anticipating that I will be back at Organic Avenue to cleanse again…
